Glycosan BioSystems, Inc. is a Salt Lake City biotechnology company that manufactures and sells unique biocompatible hydrogels that mimic the extracellular matrix.

Glycosan manufactures two lines of products: Extracel and HyStem. Extracel is for use in general cell culture, while HyStem is for stem cell culture. Glycosan’s primary objective is to provide researchers with the proper matrix and tools to advance their cell research forward to application such as regenerative medicine and cell based therapies.

Extracel

Extracel consists of a haluronan- based, semi synthetic matrix which is uniform and ready for cell culture in three simple steps - reconstitute, mix and use! Extracel gels at room temperature to 37C with no low temperature or low pH steps in its preparation. Extracel is suitable for in vivo experimentation as well as in vitro 3-D cell culture.

Hystem

Animal-free Hystem is a fully defined matrix allowing the user to customize a stem cell niche. The key hyStem feature is complete control over matrix characteristics, such as changing hydrogel stiffness and adding user-supplied ECM proteins and growth factors. The tailored HyStem can then be used to coat a plate or encapsulate cells.
